The loss of a loved one is the biggest loss a person can face. For them the world seems to crumble down in front of their eyes and being with them in this difficult time is the least a person can do. Naturally, processing the information and seeing this gloomy side of the person probably for the first time can make one short of words but we should realise that they need us there more than they can express. We can, with full our heart show care to them.

  • Those are the most vulnerable times and they may try to distance us from them but they really do need our presence.
  • We can share happy memories with them that may transport them to the happy days with their loved one.
  • We can offer them help, they may feel that it is a burden but making them realise that we are beside them is one thing they need.
  • We should respect their decisions like if they want to spend time alone we should leave them as they wish but regularly checking is one thing that must be done.
  • If possible we can offer to stay with them or can invite them to stay with us as during difficult times loneliness just adds fuel to the fire.
  • We should avoid over interfering and saying things that can provoke or trigger open the window of overthinking.

Briefly, we should realise that for them the time is difficult and we should make sure that we are there for them but also should not blur the line of over interference.
