The importance of ‘Me time’

Keeping some time for oneself is the best kind of way in which one can take care of themselves. One might assume it to be a selfish act but in fact it helps you stay healthy and maintain healthy relationships. The idea of what one does in one’s me time is different for every person like for some it is listening to song and introspecting and for others it might be painting or playing a sport.

Taking some time out for oneself recharges our mind and helps us avoid a situation of burn out.

It reduces our stress and eases us which in turn helps us to be more productive and improves our decision making skills since an exhausted mind can’ function properly. It improves our relations with people because constantly holding a contact in relationships can lead to a dependency cycle on one and another and it can allow others to think that you don’t prioritize yourself then others can start to take advantage of that. It can give you a self-worthy position, which pumps up your ability to understand others better and to love and support the people you care about. You also learn to respect others’ boundaries and understand your own.

Spending time alone gives us the chance to reconnect with ourselves as individuals. We can start with baby steps like meditating while commuting or listening to our favorite songs while exercising. One should take small naps if they ever get the time in the day or just sit quietly brainstorming. Most importantly, one should shed the guilt and make it a priority.
