The combination of psychology and creative process to promote emotional growth and healing has given rise to Expressive Art Therapy. It uses imagination and the inborn desires to create be it writing, dance, drama, painting or any creative ability. In this, the usage of multiple senses to know your inner and outer world through the experience and creation of different art forms is done. The creative aspect of this therapy helps us to learn and pick new things, it even gives our mind the freedom of imagination.
The basic core of this is that it helps to overlook our mundane routines and help us to move to a world of imagination through creative arts. Creativity leads to a process of self-discovery and understanding. There are different art therapies that can be considered taking in account the person’s hobbies and interests, including a multimodal which takes up two or more expressive therapies to foster awareness, encourage emotional growth and enhance relations with others.
This therapy is considered for a variety of emotional, behavioural and mental conditions including ADHD, eating disorders, depression, PTSD, chronic illnesses etc. It mainly revolves around expression, active participation, imagination and mind-body connections. In a nutshell, expressive art therapy is a creative way of growth and healing, it neither requires a background training nor is constraint to an age limit, it has different approaches but is the common outlet of imagination and creativity.
