Today’s era is an era of technology, all old school stuff has been replaced by new gadgets and inventions like post mail by email, landline by mobile phones, regular televisions by smart TVs to name a few. Initial introduction of mobile phones was considered as a boon for the society as it made life of all the people way easier in terms of communication, easy contact, easy transfer of documents, staying in touch with people but with the passage of time, its negative effects started becoming prominent which have led to adverse effects on the health and well-being of people.

More than 80% of people use mobile phones mostly to access and use social media. There is no harm in using the social media because it connects people, helps in sharing of information, but this new trend of using it for no particular reason like spending most of our time in scrolling social media platforms or watching violent or inappropriate content is increasing exponentially among the young generation.

It is very important that we must make a clear point that by continuously surrounding ourselves with screens, we are doing nothing but preparing our path to our own destruction i.e destruction of our mind, mental peace, eyesight, physical and mental well-being and heath.

Spending too much time on social media is critically harmful for our eyes because we are putting too much strain on them which is way above the general safe limit and we are affecting our overall health as well. We stick to our phones for hours non-stop while watching movies, chatting or scrolling mindlessly through different apps which ultimately affects our health and our body remains stiff all the time due to reduced bodily movements.

There are way too many negative effects of uninterrupted screen time and some of those are mentioned below:-

  • Direct impact on your eyesight due to continuously staring at screen for long time.
  • Affects your posture.
  • Body remains stiff due to no physical activity.
  • Young generation is most affected due to introduction of virtual reality as lack of outside exposure results in improper development.
  • Lack of exercise and fitness brings various lifestyle disorders like diabetes, heart problems.
  • Waste of time and energy.
  • Direct impact to social life.
  • Various mental health issues like stress and depression etc.

There could numerous negative effects of using smartphones and sticking to your screen for long duration of time and similarly there are thousands of ways to solve this problem but ultimately it’s your attitude which matters.

So, here are some of the ways by which you can reduce screen time:-

  • Time usage finding apps could prove beneficial in keeping your screening in check.
  • Go out with friends and family, talk to them whenever needed.
  • Maintaining a good social life is important. Plan actual outings.
  • Healthy mind resides in healthy body; start working on your physical health rather wasting time on phones.
  • Keep your body in good shape. Exercise daily.
  • Uninstall apps which are adding nothing much to your life and knowledge.
  • Take study into serious account as your career is way more important than useless YouTube videos.
  • Develop hobbies. Spend more time on those.
  • Social media is full of negative content as well, so limiting the social media usage is very important to keep your mind and mental health.

It ultimately depends upon on us as to whether we want to change ourselves or not!

Do we want to make the change? Do we want to add substance to our lives?Do we want to become successful? Do we wish to get out of the vicious cycle of switching between apps? Do we want to stop social media from affecting our physical and mental health? Do we wish to manage our time effectively? If yes, then it’s really important you must spend your time very carefully and efficiently, rather than wasting it on stuff that doesn’t add anything substantial to your life or aid your career and positive mental and physical health.
