We live in an era where social media has become such an integral part of our lives. It is almost like we cannot survive without it. Anything and everything has its own merits and demerits. So is the case with social media. It is a place to connect with family and friends as well as to promote your business and see what’s going on in the world. It is also a place where you can get yourself into trouble and have your feelings hurt by total strangers. Social media can have a positive influence on our Mental health and can help us in our healing process. This is often overshadowed by its negative impacts.

Many people pour out their emotions and thoughts on various social media platforms, this is read by so many people across the world. This is actually benefiting so many out there. It ensures that nobody is alone and we are aware that so many people out there are suffering as well. People across the globe can come together to sort out issues like taboos and stigmas, they can also help each other and exchange information as well.

Various blogs are created to help those going through tough times and mental illnesses to feel at ease. Through social media people unite, there is a sense of unity and this strong bond that is established could be useful in various ways, like collecting money for a cause, spreading awareness or simply being there for someone who is going through a tough time. When we do something good to others, this makes us feel better and happier. We develop a sense of purpose and helping those in times of need would boost our mental health. Being socially connected to others can ease stress, anxiety, and depression, boost self-worth, provide comfort and joy, prevent loneliness, and even add years to your life. On the flip side, lacking strong social connections can pose a serious risk to your mental and emotional health. This in turn would affect our overall well being as well.

Healing is not linear. It has its ups and downs. Social media has a huge impact on it. Utilizing it for the right need and in the right extent would help this process but over use and misuse of it could disrupt this process. We know that healing is a process that could lead us to what we want or where we want to reach, so taking an effort to positively utilize social media would help us achieve our dream .
