Living in this fast paced world and being influenced by none other than the gigantic power of the internet, we have become deadline oriented. Saying that deadlines cause stress is a bit of an understatement. For some people, deadlines create a sense of productivity but for certain others, it may create a level of anxiety and mental pressure.
The two types of deadlines set by us for ourselves are
- Rush deadlines in which things are basically rushed)
- One-time deadline are deadlines for doing one time things; like studying)
Whereas, the deadlines set by others for us are phased ones and recurring ones.
The reason why deadlines give stress is because sometimes we overestimate the actual time which may be taken to complete a task.
Not making a plan, having multiple deadlines and even aiming for over perfection may also lead to extreme pressure during deadlines.
Few great ways to handle the pressure of stressful deadlines can include -
- Breaking tasks into chunks
- Planning and organizing according to the estimated time taken to complete a task
- Making a priority list can also help along with management of time and proper rest.
- Cleaning the workspace time and again and taking breaks in between can also boost productivity.
It is not intelligible to work on the last night of the deadline and even working for a continuous period of time does not help much and can cause burnout.
